The Lead 📬

Team USA crushed Germany 84-57, led by A'ja Wilson's stellar performance with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Breanna Stewart added 15 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Team USA burst out to a 22-9 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. The starting lineup featured Chelsea Gray, Diana Taurasi, Napheesa Collier, Breanna Stewart, and A'ja Wilson. Team USA's first Olympic game is against Japan on July 29th.

Talks between the NFLPA and NFL representatives are heating up about expanding the season to 18 games. The NFL added a 17th game in 2021, and with the current deal ending in 2030, the NFLPA seems open to more discussions. The proposed 18th game would likely come from reducing the preseason to two games and adding a second bye week. Although still in the early stages, all signs point toward a further extended regular season becoming a reality.

The Rose Bowl wants to exit the College Football Playoff rotation to remain on New Year’s Day. It has hosted playoff games in 2015, 2018, 2021, and 2024, most recently a semifinal where eventual college football champions Michigan defeated Nick Saban and Alabama. The Rose Bowl is pushing for a change by 2026, marking its second attempt to leave the rotation.

The Mets won 3-2 against the Yankees, their third consecutive victory over their crosstown rivals. Jeff McNeil's two-run homer in the sixth secured the win after a tied game. Mets pitching walked Aaron Judge four times, but the Yankees couldn’t capitalize. Rookie manager Carlos Mendoza, formerly a Yankees coach, aims for a season sweep tonight at 7:00 PM ET.

The Dodgers are on fire, winning their fifth straight game with a 5-2 victory over the Giants. Shohei Ohtani drove in three runs, while Giants rookie Tyler Fitzgerald homered for the fifth consecutive game. The Dodgers lead the four-game series 2-0, with the next game at 10:10 PM ET.

Rookie Paul Skenes, in his 12th game, suffered his first loss as the Cardinals edged the Pirates 2-1. Skenes allowed a solo homer in the fifth and a game-winning RBI single by Alec Burleson in the ninth. Despite the Pirates tallying seven hits, they managed only nine total bases. The series is now tied 1-1, with the final game set for today at 12:35 PM ET.

The MLS and Liga MX All-Stars clash for the third time, with MLS leading 2-0 in previous encounters. Last year, the MLS All-Stars faced Arsenal, losing 5-0.
