The Lead 📬

LeBron James took charge as Team USA edged past Germany 92-88, scoring the team's last 11 points and totaling 20 in the exhibition match. This win wraps up Team USA's pre-Olympic run with a perfect 5-0 record. The lineup featured Steph Curry, Devin Booker, Jrue Holiday, LeBron James, and Joel Embiid once again. Kevin Durant sat out due to a calf injury, raising doubts about his availability for the Olympics opener against Jokic and Serbia on July 28th.

ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips announced the conference's intent to continue battling lawsuits aimed at keeping Clemson and FSU within the ACC for the foreseeable future.  The current ACC TV deal, expiring in 2036, pays member schools $23 million annually, while Big Ten and SEC schools earn over $50 million per year. Both Clemson and FSU are eager to leave, but the ACC is determined to hold them to their agreement. With the Pac-12 dwindling to just Oregon State and Washington State, eyes are now on the ACC as the next possible domino to fall.

Warner Bros. Discovery is offering the NBA a $1.8 billion per year deal to keep games on TNT. This is a significant increase from their current $1.4 billion nine-year deal, which ends next season. The NBA, however, might consider partnering with Amazon instead who also offered $1.8 billion. If accepted, the new deal will ensure NBA games are televised every night of the week starting in the 2026 season.

Scoreboard 🏟️

In a thrilling Summer League Final, the Miami Heat defeated the Memphis Grizzlies 120-118 in overtime. Miami finished their summer league run undefeated, while Memphis ended 5-1. Scottie Pippen Jr. shined with 29 points and 11 rebounds for the Grizzlies, but Heat’s Josh Christopher snagged MVP honors with 24 points, including 6-10 from three. Pelle Larsson sealed the win with a buzzer-beater in OT.

The Cincinnati Reds kicked off their series in Atlanta with a 4-1 victory over the Braves. Hunter Greene was stellar, allowing just two hits over seven innings. Atlanta's lone run came in the bottom of the ninth, marking their third consecutive loss. The series continues tomorrow at 7:20 PM ET.

The last-place Oakland Athletics stunned the Houston Astros with a 3-0 shutout victory on Monday night, playing in front of about 4,000 fans. Starter Hogan Harris and three relievers combined for the impressive shutout. The Astros, despite totaling nine hits and leaving eight men on base, couldn't convert their opportunities into runs. This win marks only the second victory for the A's against their division rivals this season, bringing their record to 2-6 against Houston. Two more games remain in this series.

Scouting Report 📺

Team USA Women face Germany in a pre-Olympic exhibition in London after their loss to Team WNBA. This is the only exhibition match for Team USA before the Olympics. Germany, making their Olympic debut this year, faces an opponent in Team USA, which has won gold in nine of the last ten Olympics.

The Mets and Yankees clash again in a two-game Subway Series. Last time, the Mets scored 21 runs over two games to sweep the Yankees. With the Yankees at home and hoping to shake off their slump, they'll look to even the score with their cross-town rivals.
