The Lead 📬
Argentina is back in the Copa America Final after defeating Canada 2-0, replicating the scoreline of their group play match. Argentina demonstrated their superior class by largely controlling the run of play. They have now won all five of their tournament games, scoring eight goals and allowing only one. The goals came from familiar scorers, with Julian Alvarez netting in the 22nd minute and Messi adding another in the 51st, deflating any potential comeback hopes from Canada. Argentina will face the winner of the Colombia-Uruguay match in the Copa America Final on July 14th.
Last Night ⭐
Spain scored twice in four minutes to defeat France 2-1 and secure their spot in the Euro Final. France scored in the eighth minute, registering their first goal from open play in the tournament. Spain’s sixteen-year-old star, Lamine Yamal, became the youngest goal scorer in the competition when he drew Spain level. Dani Olmo scored four minutes later, marking his fifth goal involvement in five games. Spain will play the winner of the England-Netherlands match on July 14th.
The Phillies dominated Tuesday night, winning 10-1 in a clobbering of the Dodgers. Philadelphia was highly efficient, scoring ten runs on just twelve hits, highlighted by Trea Turner’s grand slam in the fourth inning. All-Stars Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber were activated for tonight's game, with Schwarber contributing two RBIs.
The Guardians edged out the Tigers 9-8 in extra innings. The game was close throughout, with Detroit scoring four runs off two homers in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at seven. In extra innings the Guardians scored twice while the Tigers' comeback fell one run short.
Scouting Report 📺
England is playing for a second consecutive Euro Championship final, while the Netherlands hasn’t reached the final since winning the competition in 1988. The Dutch have improved as the tournament has progressed, dismantling Romania in the Round of 16 and coming from behind to defeat Turkey in the quarterfinals. England has only scored five goals in five matches, bringing the tactics of manager Gareth Southgate into question. However, both teams find themselves just 90 minutes away from a major tournament final.
Colombia is looking to extend its 27-game unbeaten run as they face a Uruguay side that has won all four matches, scoring nine and allowing just one. James Rodriguez is leading the way for Colombia with a tournament-high four assists and is playing his best soccer in a decade. Uruguay’s physical and high-tempo pace will push both teams to their limits.
The two best teams in the WNBA face off with the opportunity to claim sole possession of the top spot in the Eastern Conference. The Sun is on a three-game win streak, while the Liberty lost to the Fever in their last outing. The game is scheduled for 11 A.M. ET to comply with the WNBA rule that each team must host a child-friendly start time.
