📬 Bills-Dolphins Rivalry 🔥 | A'ja Makes History 🏀 | Today: Yankees-Red Sox Showdown ⚾
Sports news in 5 minutes.
Good morning and welcome to The Warm Up! In today’s edition, we’re diving into a classic AFC East rivalry as the Bills and Dolphins face off in primetime, with Buffalo looking to maintain their dominance. Meanwhile, A'ja Wilson is rewriting the WNBA record books, and we’ve got a breakdown of Bailey Falter’s epic outing for the Pirates. In case you missed it, Shohei Ohtani's historic season continues, and the Liberty are closing in on the WNBA’s top seed, let’s dive in!
The Bills and Dolphins are set to clash again, with Buffalo dominating their recent matchups, winning 11 of the last 12, including a playoff game. However, Miami’s dynamic duo, Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, aim to flip the script on Thursday night. Hill, fresh off a wild Week 1 that saw him score an 80-yard TD, will be a handful for Buffalo’s defense, which struggled early last week. Josh Allen, has averaged 350 yards and 3 TDs in their last four meetings. With Raheem Mostert out and De'Von Achane questionable, the Dolphins’ run game needs a boost, leaving Jeff Wilson to carry the load. Meanwhile, Buffalo’s Greg Rousseau, coming off a three-sack performance, could be a factor in disrupting Tua Tagovailoa’s rhythm.
In a 27-point, 12-rebound performance, A'ja Wilson became the WNBA’s single-season scoring leader, surpassing Jewell Loyd’s previous mark of 939 points. And Wilson did it in style, reaching 956 points and putting herself on the brink of 1,000 — a feat no player in league history has achieved. Her late-game heroics sealed an 86-75 win for the Las Vegas Aces over the Indiana Fever, making it their 14th consecutive victory against Indiana. The Fever had a chance to make it interesting, but Caitlin Clark’s 1-for-10 shooting from deep wasn’t good enough to keep up with the defending champs.
Weston Wilson delivered with an infield single that proved to be the game-winner as the Phillies edged the Rays 3-2. Zack Wheeler picked up his 15th win, but more importantly, the Phils have won 14 of their last 18 and are looking to October. Nick Castellanos hit his 20th home run of the season, and if the Phillies can stay hot, they’re looking at a deep run in the playoffs.
Bailey Falter looked flawless in the Pirates' 3-1 win over the Marlins, throwing a no-hitter into the seventh. After struggling with a 4.45 ERA, Falter delivered his best performance in two years, striking out five batters. Jared Triolo chipped in with his eighth homer of the season to help the Pirates sweep the Marlins.

Aaron Judge and the Yankees (83-62) square off against Jarren Duran’s Red Sox (73-72) with plenty of home run power to go around. The Bronx Bombers have slugged six homers in their last 10 games, but Boston’s are even hotter with 10 homers of their own. With both teams’ pitching staffs sporting ERAs north of 4.6 in recent games, expect fireworks in this four-game series at Yankee Stadium.
The New York Liberty (30-6) are riding a four-game win streak and aim to make it five against the struggling Dallas Wings (9-27). While Dallas leads the league with 40.5 points in the paint, New York’s secret sauce is all about the boards, with Jonquel Jones pulling down 9.2 rebounds per game. In their last meeting, Breanna Stewart torched the Wings with 27 points, leading the Liberty to a 105-91 win. On the Wings' side, Arike Ogunbowale is putting up 22.6 points per game, but even with her firepower, Dallas has only managed a 7-11 home record.
Texas State (2-0) has been lighting up the scoreboard, averaging 41.5 points and 495 yards per game as they prepare to host Arizona State. Senior QB Jordan McCloud has thrown for 547 yards and five TDs, while receiver Chris Dawn Jr. leads the team with 163 yards and two scores. Arizona State, however, has its own powerhouse: freshman QB Sam Leavitt and Big 12 rushing leader Cam Skattebo, who’s averaging 155.5 rushing yards per game.
