Sports news in 5 minutes.
Good morning and welcome to The Warm Up! In today's edition, we've got a loaded lineup of action. From the Buffalo Bills flexing their AFC East dominance while Tua's injury shakes up the Dolphins' season, to a WNBA blowout where the Liberty continue to make history. The Yankees find themselves in another walk-off thriller, but Judge’s homerless streak remains the talk of the Bronx. We also dive into the upcoming Kansas vs. UNLV clash and a scouting report on the Wildcats' face-off, let’s dive in!
The Buffalo Bills flexed their AFC East muscles once again with a 31-10 victory over the Miami Dolphins, thanks to James Cook’s career night with three first-half touchdowns and Ja’Marcus Ingram's two interceptions, including a pick-six. While the Bills cruised to 2-0, the bigger story was Miami’s QB Tua Tagovailoa, who left the game in the third quarter with a concussion—his third diagnosed concussion in just over a year. Miami now faces uncertainty as Tua’s return is in question, potentially jeopardizing the team’s 2024 campaign. Despite a tough night, Dolphins running back De'Von Achane shined with 96 yards on 22 carries. Buffalo, meanwhile, reaffirmed its AFC East dominance, with Josh Allen improving to 12-2 against Miami.
The New York Liberty (31-6) made quick work of the Dallas Wings, cruising to a 99-67 victory and completing a season sweep. Sabrina Ionescu led the charge with 20 points and 6 assists, while James Wade’s squad set a WNBA record with their 40th double-digit scoring run of the season. New York’s three-point barrage continues, as they passed the 2023 Aces for the second-most threes in a season. They’ve won 16 games by 30+ points, tying the WNBA record. The Liberty’s bench also outscored their Dallas counterparts, moving them to 15-0 when the bench gets it done. With their best start in franchise history, the Liberty have their eyes on more than just records.
Juan Soto’s 10th-inning heroics gave the Yankees a thrilling 2-1 walk-off win over the Red Sox, their second in as many days. Soto’s clutch hit secured New York’s fifth win in seven games, but all eyes are on Aaron Judge, who extended his homerless streak to a career-high 16 games. Despite the drought, Judge remains a power threat, almost going yard in the first inning. Gleyber Torres hit an early solo shot, while Nestor Cortes impressed with nine strikeouts over five innings. The Yanks now hold a two-game lead in the AL East, as Boston slips further in the wild card race.
After a 21-21 shootout in the first half, Arizona State's defense stepped up, shutting out Texas State in the fourth quarter to secure a 31-28 win. Shamari Simmons forced a game-changing fumble, leading to a go-ahead field goal, while Xavion Alford’s clutch interception sealed the deal. QB Sam Leavitt threw for 246 yards, including a 52-yard TD, and Cam Skattebo iced the game with some hard-nosed running. ASU’s defense held the Bobcats to just 27 yards in the fourth, giving the Sun Devils their first 3-0 start since 2019.

UNLV hasn’t kicked off a football season 3-0 since 1984. But the Rebels are making noise, boasting a defense that dismantled Houston and a ground game that’s third in the nation with over 500 rushing yards. Kansas, fresh off a stumble against Illinois, needs to keep the chains moving and stay off the sidelines if they want a chance. With UNLV eyeing their first 4-0 start ever as they prepare for a Big 12 showdown.
Arizona might be moving to the Big 12, but this isn’t a conference matchup—yet. Arizona edition comes in hot off a 61-39 rout of New Mexico, while Kansas State’s pass rush is ready to feast. Arizona’s deep shots will test K-State’s defense, but QB Noah Fifita won’t have much time to think with that Wildcat pressure. Kansas State’s offensive front has held up well, but if they can control the clock, they’ll have a shot at flipping the 5-1 all-time series lead Arizona currently holds.
The Las Vegas Aces are heating up at the right time, winning five of their last six games and holding strong at 4th in the WNBA standings. A’ja Wilson is an unstoppable force, averaging a league-best 27.3 points and 11.9 rebounds per game, while Kelsey Plum adds firepower with 17.8 points per contest. Indiana’s offense is no slouch, with Kelsey Mitchell and Caitlin Clark leading the charge, but their defense has been a glaring weakness. With the postseason on the horizon, Las Vegas looks to keep rolling while Indiana’s defense hopes to stop leaking points at the worst possible time.
Earlier this week A’ja Wilson broke the single season scoring record in the WNBA at 956 points? Who owns the record in the NBA and what year was it set?
👉️ Answer Below
Wilt Chamberlain holds the NBA record for most points scored in a single season with 4,029 points during the 1961–62 season.
